The first Learning, Teaching and Training Activity mobility of the “Everything Starts with Mathematics” project took place in Bucharest, Romania, in the Colegiul Național "Spiru Haret" Bucureşti, between the 14th and the 18th of November 2022.
This LTTA was attended by mathematics teachers from all partners and they had the opportunity to not only discuss some of the results already achieved in the project, but also to participate in seminars about Dyscalculia. Before attending and participating in the activities of the first “Everything Starts with Maths” LTTA, each partner carried out one of the first tasks of the project – a test was presented to maths students – as a way to assess students’ mathematical knowledge, difficulties and possible problems with dyscalculia. Each partner gathered their own results, performed a thorough analysis and presented them to the partnership. In a joint discussion during the partnership meeting in Romania, all the results were compared and some conclusions were reached. The main objective of the test was to identify students with difficulties in mathematics and subsequently select them for participation in the future activities of the project. This resulted in the achievement of one of the main goals foreseen for this LTTA, the selection of students from all different backgrounds to participate in the project, with the common issue of having noticeable difficulties in mathematics.
The second part and correspondent goal of the LTTA held in Bucharest were the learning, teaching and training activities about dyscalculia, attended by the mathematics teachers of all partner countries. In each day of the mobility, all teachers had the opportunity to learn more about this topic, as well as share their own opinions, experiences and difficulties they have felt when dealing with the issue of dyscalculia. The learning, teaching and training activities involved seminars given by education and psychology professionals who shared their expertise on how to identify, approach and help students who are affected by dyscalculia. Several tools were introduced and provided to the teachers, such as diagnose tests, teaching methods and specifically designed programs and teaching tools. With this, another foreseen result of this mobility is achieved, as all the knowledge gathered by the teachers throughout the mobility will now be implemented in all the schools of the partnership, as well as in the immediate and future development of the “Everything Starts with Mathematics” project. Last but not least, during the mobility held in Colegiul Național "Spiru Haret" Bucureşti, the partnership had the opportunity to present, vote and select the official logo and poster to identify the project throughout its execution. All the partners presented the best logos and posters that were created by the students of their schools and, after a unanimous voting decision, both the logo and poster from the Greek partner were selected.
